Your gifts have ensured at least 9 Black, Indigenous and other children and youth of colour from 2SLGBTQ+ communities can experience the magic of Camp Ten Oaks!
This year’s Giving Tuesday campaign was focused on supporting racialized children and youth from 2SLGBTQ+ families and communities who may have difficulties accessing camp. We’re committed to creating safe, affirming and magical camp experiences for children and youth — part of that means removing financial barriers to access for racialized communities.
Every year, our community make it possible for us to offer sliding-scale camp fees, making Camp Ten Oaks accessible to more families from 2SLGBTQ+ communities. In 2021, 2022, and 2023, generous donors just like you funded the equivalent of 36 camper spots through our Giving Tuesday campaigns: $46,847 in camp costs that would otherwise have been passed on to camper families.
This year, thanks to Ten Oaks Project founder Holly Wagg generously matching our donation total, we’ve raised $19,000 which will cover the entire cost of camp for 9 Black, Indigenous and other children and youth of colour from 2SLGBTQ+ communities
Donors like you bring the magic of Camp Ten Oaks to campers like El, Baruc, Luna and Kori:

Hi my name is LUNA. I am 13 years old, and I have been going to Camp Ten Oaks for 3 Years, and I have been having so much fun!!! Because of this camp I have made many friends.

My name is EL. I’ve been coming to Ten Oaks for three years. I was nervous the first year and the other years I was excited to come back. My favourite camp activity was wheelchair basketball. I do think that youth like me should have a chance to come to Ten Oaks. Everyone should experience camp at least once and it’s nice to have a queer community that reflects my values instead of a normative community.

Hi my name is Baruc and have been going to camp ten oaks for 3 years and I’ve learned a lot about how the community means to people. This camp has also been fun and it was a great experience.

Hi my name is Kori and I’ve been coming to Ten Oaks for 2 years. I was a bit nervous before camp, but when we arrived my nervous quickly leaved. I like all the activities, but my favourites are swimming and crafting. I really enjoy being in an environment where people are experiencing the same thing as me. I learned so much about myself and other and think that more kids should have a chance to do the same things I did at Ten Oaks.
