Events

Camp Clean Up - Ottawa

On Saturday May 5, we invite you to join us at camp for our annual camp clean up day.  Each spring, the Ten Oaks Project recruits a team of volunteers to help Camp Kalalla (the site we rent from) get camp into tip top shape.

We spend a fun-filled day at camp helping out with various activities like raking, painting, building, plumbing and more!  Kalalla has work for people of all ages and families are welcome.

If you're able to lend a hand, RSVP to Board Member Larisa Williams at 819.827.1134 or larisa@tenoaksproject.org.

InsideOut Film Festival - Toronto

The Ten Oaks Project presents The Curiosity of Chance at InsideOut, 17th Annual Toronto Lesbian and Gay Film and Video Festival.  An all-ages screening will take place on Saturday, May 26 at 7:15 pm at the Isabel Bader Theatre.

Proving that Molly Ringwald isn't the only one who looks pretty in pink, The Curiosity of Chance pays homage to the classic John Hughes films of the 1980s with the story of a social outcast looking for his chance to fit in.

For InsideOut updates and details visit www.insideout.ca.

Child and Youth Friendly Ottawa (CAYFO) Conference

I am Safe, the third international CAYFO conference on bullying and victimization, was held in Ottawa April 3-4, 2007. The Ten Oaks Project coordinated a plenary session at the conference, entitled "That's so Gay!" - Speaking Out About Homophobic Bullying and Harassment.

This session brought together the voices of youth, community workers, educators and parents to help break the silence surrounding homophobic bullying and harassment in both urban and rural environments. The panel explored options to help promote safe schools and communities that foster healthy youth development for LGBTTQ youth, children of LGBTTQ families, those who are perceived to be LGBTTQ, and bystanders of homophobic bullying.

For more information, please visit the conference website.

Supporters

We're pleased to share with you that the Lesbian & Gay Community Appeal Foundation (Toronto) and the Community Foundation of Ottawa (Ottawa) have announced they'll be supporting us again in 2007 through their granting programs.

We rely upon our community of supporters to help us reach our fundraising targets each year to ensure that our programs can operate on a pay-what-you-can scale.  We fundraise so that our families and campers don't have to.

This month, we'll be launching our 2007 Spring Donor Campaign.  If you haven't yet made a donation to support us in 2007, there's no time like now. Please visit CanadaHelps.org to make your tax deductible donation today.

The Ten Oaks Project is a not-for-profit, charitable organization. Our mission is to develop, promote, provide and support programming for the children of LGBTQ and/or non-traditional families, LGBTQ youth, and their allies. We currently offer one program: Camp Ten Oaks.
