Camp Ten Oaks
Camp Planning
Committee
Our Camp
Planning Committee (CPC) has just finished up another six
months of successful preparation for this summer's camp
session. Our committed volunteer group of parents,
staff, campers and community members met once a month to bring
a variety of perspectives and experiences to the development
of our camp program.
Some of the exciting things
the CPC worked on this year included reviewing camper and
staff policies, assisting with program development, updating
our emergency and crisis communications plan, reviewing our
evaluation tools and working on site logistics.
We'll
be recruiting individuals to participate on our 2008 planning
committee in the fall.
Counting Down the
Days As camp quickly nears,
we have a few spots remaining
that we'd like to fill for campers ages 12-15 in our IAC and
SAC groups. Registration
packages and a complete listing
of registration availability is available on our
website.
Please note that our LAC
Program is now full.

connected to the Ten Oaks Project to put on their walking
shoes and join us in the parade. We also encourage other fun
outfit add-ons and ideas that are in the sprit of pride.

Youth Line Community Youth Awards -
Toronto
 On June 6, 2007,
the Ten Oaks Project was invited to attend the 9th Annual Youth Line
Community Youth Awards to
celebrate the
contributions of LGBT youth that continue to add value to our
communities. A highlight of the evening
happened when our camper, Sarah, was invited to the stage by
MC Deb Pearce. Sarah took to the stage and delighted the
audience with stories of her experiences at Camp Ten
Oaks.

Queer Parenting
CollectionEarlier this year, the Ten Oaks
Project submitted a n abstract to be
considered as part of a forthcoming Queer Parenting
Collection. This book will be edited by Rachel Epstein
and published by Demeter Press in the Winter of 2008. Our
proposal was accepted and interviews are underway.
The purpose of the piece is bring
forth the voices of campers and families to talk about their
experiences at Camp Ten Oaks and what it is like to grow up in
an LGBTQ household/grow up LGBTQ in Canada
today.
Hamilton
Pride
Thanks to camper Stephanie and her family, the Ten Oaks
Project was able to appear at Pride celebrations in Hamilton
on June 16.
The day was spent connecting with community
and sharing information on our summer camp program, Camp Ten Oaks.
