fabulous bowlers and teams, visit our online fundraising site to make your secure online pledge.

Only 12 More Days till the Bowl-A-Thon and We're Looking for Teams

If you haven't already committed to bowl at the 4th Annual Camp Bowl-A-Thon, now's the time.  We have 7 lanes left for our fundraiser extraordinaire that returns on March 1, 2008.

Are you ready to lace up your shoes? Have you registered your team and booked a lane? Have you gotten your sponsors? Are you practicing your adventure bowl? Do you have a costume? Are you ready to have fun and win some prizes?

Join us at Walkley Bowling Centre from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm for an evening of bowling madness that includes prizes, costumes, adventure bowling, and spirit - all with the goal of sending kids to Camp Ten Oaks - and having a little fun along the way!

Form a team.  Raise funds.  Send kids to Camp Ten Oaks.

It currently costs $600 a week to send a kid to camp.  This year's Bowl-A-Thon fundraising target is set for $22,000.  Help us make it happen.

Check out our website to find out how you can book a lane, raise pledges and win fantastic prizes!

Who is in your Camp Family?

Last month, Board members Sonja Prakash and Holly Wagg attended the annual Ontario Camping Association conference.  While there, they delivered a presentation entitled "Who is in Your Camp Family" to help camps become more inclusive around issues of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, class and family structure.

In addition to this, the 2008 Summer Camps insert in the Ottawa Citizen published some handy tips for parents on how to choose a summer camp written by us here at the Ten Oaks Project.

Searching for a New Board Member - Marketing and Communications

We're currently looking for a Board member to lead our marketing and communications portfolio.  This portfolio includes producing the monthly eNewsletter, assisting with the development of Bowl-A-Thon promotional materials, updating and maintaining the Ten Oaks Project and Camp Ten Oaks websites, producing the Annual Report and other promotional materials as required.

If you, or someone you know, is looking to get involved with a community organization in a hands-on role, this is the volunteer experience for you.

For more information on our Board of Directors and how we work, please download our nominations package or contact us.

We're Looking for Volunteers. Are you up for a Challenge?

The Ten Oaks Project is seeking volunteers to help us grow our organization. Volunteers can participate in many different ways from supporting a one-shot event like the 4th Annual Camp Bowl-A-Thon (we're still looking for bowlarrific volunteers!!) or by being involved on an ongoing basis where there are many meaningful opportunities.

Volunteers are needed to represent the Ten Oaks Project at community events like Pride and LGXpo or to help solidify the foundation of our organization with fundraising support among many other opportunities and possibilities.

Please contact Andrea Poncia, Board Member - Volunteer Coordination for more information, or to get involved at andrea@tenoaksproject.org.

Egale Canada Launches Survey on Homophobia/Transphobia in Canadian Schools

Egale Canada has launched a survey research project designed to explore the experiences of homophobia and transphobia of students in Grades 8 - 12 in Canadian schools.  The aim of the project is to document the realities of life at school for straight, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, Two Spirit, intersex, queer, and questioning (LGBTTIQ) students in Canada, including the kids of LGBTTIQ parents.  The goal is to provide policy makers and educators with information that will help them make schools safer and more respectful.  We are asking you to help by making our survey known to youth who use your services or attend support groups at your organization.  The survey can be found online at www.climatesurvey.ca.

The Ten Oaks Project is a not-for-profit, charitable organization. Our mission is to engage and connect children and youth from LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, two-spirit, queer) communities through programs and activities rooted in play.
