The Ten Oaks Project welcomes Kate Moore Our first Executive Director
The little organization that could! Who knew five years ago, when a group of committed and passionate volunteers got together around a kitchen table in Ottawa, that the Ten Oaks Project would not only last to five years but would be charting its course for future success with Camp Ten Oaks and continued program expansion. We are so proud of our accomplishments, but also so thrilled to announce a key piece in ensuring the long-term sustainability and growth of our organization! On behalf of the Ten Oaks Project Board of Directors, I am happy to announce that Kate Moore will be joining our organization as its first Executive Director, with her first day in early April.
Kate comes to the Ten Oaks Project with a wealth of experience in camping and youth programming. She was the Director of Camp Allsaw for seven years, an active member of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Camping Association and also a past Director of the Canadian Camping Association. Kate has also held senior leadership roles outside of camping in a number of non-profit organizations, post-secondary institutions and most recently in the federal and provincial governments.
Throughout her career, Kate has remained closely connected to the camping world. She is a regular speaker at camping conferences (including the Ontario Camping Association Directors Conference, the International Camping Congress and the YMCA Camping Kindred Conference). She is also a member of the Society of Camp Directors and has also been on the organizing committee for Jamboree, the annual camp for the queer community sponsored by Out and Out.
In addition, Kate brings a wealth of experience in the area of program development, having successfully designed and implemented multiple pilot and leadership programs both in Canada and abroad. Kate is fluent in English and French, holds a Masters' Degree from Laval University in Geography as well as undergraduate degrees in Environmental Studies and Education. Kate has also been recently certified as a transformational leader through the Hendriks Institute.
When she's not working, Kate is a zany and fun individual who loves the outdoors, swimming (and just a little bit competitive with her gold medals at the Gay Games and Out Games), and travel, notably with her partner Manon. Kate will be relocating from Toronto and we know that our wonderful community here will make her feel welcome.
I am confident that Kate's experience, enthusiasm and passion will be a tremendous asset to the Ten Oaks Project as we build on our past to ensure our strong future.
Welcome Kate!

A message from Kate
"Does it make your heart sing?" asked my sister Lynn when I told her about the Ten Oaks Project. An unqualified "yes" was my immediate response.
I am excited about stepping into the role of Executive Director with the Ten Oaks Project as I believe it's a place where magic happens and ripples out. It's a place and a group of people that I imagine is helping to create a society where all can feel safe, can dream and can realize their dreams. I admire the accomplishments of the Ten Oaks Project and I'd like to be a part of creating many more successes.
What attracted me first to the Ten Oaks Project was how it fit with my values and passions. I love camp! I totally enjoy spending time in nature with kids and youth. I believe in playing an active role in creating the kind of society that I want to live in. I love leadership. I celebrate diversity. I aspire to being a parent with my partner, Manon (pictured we me above, left). The mission, the vision and the core values of the Ten Oaks Project resonated for me and when I imagine being the Executive Director, it makes my heart sing.
I look forward to meeting you - our campers, our families, our volunteers, our partners - collaborating with you and continuing the Ten Oaks Project's tradition of creating intentional magic together.
