Camp Lifting Leaves - Ten Oaks Project

who we are

Camp Lifting Leaves is a pilot project of the Ten Oaks Project and the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa. We have seen a growing need for connection and community building amongst children and youth from LGBTQ+ communities who are in and out of care, and are thrilled to offer a camp just for them! The activities and programming offered at Camp Lifting Leaves will be similar to our other camp programs, and include time at the waterfront, arts and crafts, archery, high ropes and climbing, and social justice workshops.

who can attend?

Camp Lifting Leaves is for children and youth ages 8-21 from LGBTQ+ communities who are in and out of care. While this project is a partnership with the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa, children and youth involved with other Ontario child welfare agencies are welcome to attend. Each agency who has children and youth attending camp must provide one CAS staff member / volunteer for every four kids being sent to camp, as well as any staff members / volunteers needed for one-on-one support. These staff members / volunteers are responsible for the supervision, safety, and wellbeing of the children they are chaperoning 24/7.

dates and location

Camp Lifting Leaves 2018 was held from November 2-4, 2018 at RKY Camp in Parham, Ontario.

Registration for the year is now closed. We will re-open registration in the early fall of 2019. Keep an eye on our social media to find out exactly when.

campers waitlist

The Ten Oaks Project is committed to implementing a racially and ethnically diverse, anti-ageist, gender-varied, economically-mixed and multi-abled camper and volunteer population from LGBTQ+ identities, families and communities. For campers who are added to our waitlist, we will prioritize giving spots to BIPOC (black, indigenous, and people of colour) and transfeminine children and youth.

The cost for Camp Lifting Leaves is $1,200 per camper. The child welfare agency each youth in care is involved with can access funding to cover the fee from OCBe; there are other sources of funding for those out of care, such as agency foundations or Admission Prevention. Fees are set by averaging out costs once we have a realistic estimate of how many campers will be attending. Because of this, fees may fluctuate from year to year. Generally, the more campers we have in attendance, the lower the cost per person.

Camp fees must be paid in full OR post-dated cheques for the full fee must be sent to the Ten Oaks Project by the first day of camp. Post-dated cheques must be dated no later than December 31. Camp fees must be paid in full by December 31 in order for a child to return to camp the following year.

Refund and cancellation policy

All cancellations or refund requests must be submitted to the Ten Oaks Project in writing by email or mail. Refunds for camp fees will be made less a $30 processing fee.

  • 100% of the camp fee is refundable until October 1.
  • 50% of the camp fee is refundable until October 15.
  • 20% of the camp fee is refundable until October 31.

No refunds will be issued after October 31, except in exceptional circumstances.

No refunds are issued if a camper is required to leave camp early for medical reasons or is asked to leave the camp program for behavioural reasons.
