Board of Directors - Call for Nominations

Are you interested in joining the Ten Oaks Project's Board of Directors?

The Ten Oaks Project is currently accepting nominations for individuals to sit on its 2009-2011 Board of Directors.

The role of the Board of Directors

The Ten Oaks Project Board of Directors is based upon a collective working model. This means that our board members take an active leadership role and volunteer their time to work towards achieving our mission. The main responsibilities of the board are to:

  • Fulfill the directives of their own specific portfolio
  • Establish the organization’s mission and plan for the future
  • Ensure the financial health of the organization
  • Direct organizational operations
  • Ensure effective community relations
  • build the human resources capacity of the organization.

Board Member Responsibilities

  • Committing to upholding the mission, vision and values of the organization
  • Willingness to assume responsibility and share your knowledge and skills in leading a member portfolio
  • Attending monthly board meetings and two annual board retreats held in the winter and summer
  • A time commitment of a minimum of twelve hours per month, which includes board and committee preparation and meeting times
  • Attendance at the Annual General Meeting and/or special meetings
  • Being informed about the programs provided by the Ten Oaks Project and publicly support them
  • Upholding the bylaws of the organization
  • Preparing for and participating in the discussions and the deliberations of the board
  • All members of the Board of Directors are required to participate in fundraising activities

Time Commitment

The board meets once a month and members will also participate in two weekend-long retreats per year. Board members will provide leadership to and coordinate a portfolio which should involve leading a committee of volunteers that will meet more frequently on an as needed basis. Board members may also work in pods where tasks and responsibilities overlap. The time commitment for TOP board members is approximately 12 hours per month.

If elected to the board, your volunteer participation will be conditional on the successful completion of a police reference check for work with the vulnerable sector.
