The first summer, we had one summer camp, 22 campers, and 11 volunteers.
Fifteen years later, we have five programs, serve over 350 children and youth every year, have two fulltime staff and fifty seasonal camp staff, over 100 volunteers, and countless donors and supporters.
To celebrate our 15th anniversary and all the amazing people who have built the us up, we are profiling 15 champions of the Ten Oaks Project.
These are all folks who have had significant involvement with the Ten Oaks Project over the years: they started our programs, served on our Board of Directors, grew up at camp to become the most amazing camp counsellors, raise funds to ensure no child is turned away from camp because of financial barriers, represent us in their communities, and believe wholeheartedly in the magic of camp.
Our champions are joining together to raise $15,000 in 15 days for the Ten Oaks Project.
The funds raised will do directly to our summer camp programs for the children and youth of 2SLGBTQ+ identities, families and communities. At camp, our programming variety allows campers to receive instruction, strengthen old skills and develop new ones with the option to participate in outdoor adventure, waterfront, arts, social justice activities and sports. We empower children and youth through play that enhances self-esteem, life skills, independence, leadership and self-confidence.
